Background

DeciBio is a “strategy consulting and market intelligence firm serving clients across the precision medicine ecosystem”. One of the products that they offer are therapy (drug development) trackers (https://www.decibio.com/product/theratrack) that they share with clients to give a “comprehensive lens into the nucleic acid therapy drug development space”. Forerunners was employed to build multiple ‘trackers’ for DeciBio over the course of a couple years using Tableau.

Solution

We partnered with DeciBio to quickly and efficiently build their trackers using Tableau. These trackers consisted of multi page Tableau interactive stories. We used a mix of proprietary data provided by DeciBio and also assisted in data collection for company information and high level clinical trials statistics in the united states. The reports were templatized which enabled us to quickly build new dashboards for DeciBio when they had a new ‘tracker’.

    Background

    Advanced Dermatology and Cosmetic Surgery (ADCS) has over 150 clinics across the country, along with thousands of providers and services. Managing the financial reporting and analysis of this many locations and providers is tedious and full of manual labor every month. Forerunners engaged initially with ADCS to help automate and standardize this reporting.

    Solution

    We initially automated the creation of their bank package (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow). We did this by extracting data directly from their chart of accounts housed in D365 and connected that to Power BI. We used Power BI to create the bank package reporting, and leveraged the data to also create an automated and exportable Excel version that could be shared with executive management or outside investors.
    In the last three years we have worked consistently together to continually build out their financial reporting. This includes integrating transactional clinic data from their SQL database and building out many other automated reports such as a ‘Revenue Flash’, regional P&L reports, budget calculations, audit reporting and so much more. To do this day Forerunners maintains an active and mutually beneficial partnership with ADCS.

      Background

      Lexitas is an online group of companies that performs court reporting, medical records and process serving. Each subsidiary within Lexitas had a group that was in charge of invoicing their clients, sending out statements, and perform collection activities. They have thousands of invoices that they sound out a month across hundreds of clients. One subsidiary specifically was moving over to an entirely new accounting system and needed a new and automated way of sending out statements each month to their clients. That is where we came to help!

      Solution

      The requirements were straightforward: automatically email out statements each month to all their clients, along with appended copies of their invoices. There were hundreds of statements, and sometimes a single statement had over 1000 invoices which made the problem large, but easily doable with the right tools. We started by coordinating with the IT team to build out an API endpoint we could use to query all the invoice and client data. We then built data flows that brought data together into a unified Power BI semantic model. Next we built some simple Power BI reports for the collection agents to view aging reports. Lastly and most critically we built an interface within Power BI that let Lexitas select any or all their customers and with one click of a button, generate and send out all the statements needed for the month.
      This automation mainly utilized three tools: Power BI, Report Builder, and Power Automate. Power BI gathered the data together and provided a simple interface. Power Automate was used to automatically loop through all the clients, generate statements and invoice copies for each, and email them to the clients. Power BI Report Builder was used to make the paginated PDFs of the statements with invoices appended to them. Everything coming together into a complex system that provided a very simple and efficient solution for Lexitas.
      They liked the tool so much that Lexitas contracted Forerunners to build similar solutions for two of their other subsidiaries. Both with unique designs, requirements and data sources.

      Automated statements saved the collections team hundreds of hours each month in manually creating statements and sending them out.
      Accuracy and efficiency of the statements allowed for more efficient collections activities which resulting in tens of thousands of dollars of monthly revenue.

        Background

        CUENTO is a San Diego based marketing agency helping companies re-imagine their brands and boost their profits through various marketing efforts. Forerunners is the analytics partner for CUENTO marketing and has worked with them on over 10 clients. The most in depth engagement was working with Ballast Point Brewing. CUENTO became their marketing department and engaged in paid and organic social media marketing as well as classic media marketing (TV and Radio). The need was then to analyze the results of these marketing efforts against beer sales to monitor their effectiveness and improve the campaigns.

        Solution

        We built the dashboard and created reports to help optimize and validated the marketing efforts. We started by establishing the data pipelines from the various data sources. We used StitchData to automatically gather paid social data and pipe it into Google’s BigQuery database. We worked with both CUENTO and Ballast Point to establish procedures and formatting guidelines for the classic media marketing data. Lastly we worked directly in iDIG to extract the beer distribution data (sales). All of this was automatically ingested into Power BI to be transformed, combined, and presented in one cohesive format.
        The Power BI reports created highlighted return on investment for the marketing efforts, efficiency and reach of the various channels, and also analyzed the sales data for senior management. Forerunners has since assisted CUENTO with similar marketing analytics efforts as well as survey creation and analysis for the MLB.

        The reports helped CUENTO view and therefore update their paid social media strategy based on combined trends across multiple platforms
        Ballast Point senior management received comprehensive reporting of their sales and distributions for the first time and were able to make high level strategy decisions regarding their beer production and branding.

          Background

          OnRamp (https://www.onramp.io/) created “a skills-based hiring platform that provides all candidates, regardless of their background, the opportunity to demonstrate their skills (and learn new ones) during the hiring process, while providing companies with candidate insights that help them make smarter, less biased hiring decisions”. OnRamp engaged forerunners to design a curriculum, interview and select candidates, and teach a one month full time data science training program for 6 ‘apprentices’. These apprentices were then contracted for a formal apprenticeship at Twitch.

          Solution

          We created the data science curriculum from scratch after working with Twitch to understand the desired skills and competencies for their candidates. The curriculum spanned one full month of work for the apprentices to help improve their data science skills. The skills covered were both technical in nature: SQL, Data Visualization and BI, Data QA/cleaning, Experiment Design, Hypothesis Testing, Power Analysis, A/B Testing. The course also covered soft skills and training: Defining Metrics, Report Writing, Storytelling, Public Speaking, Communicating with Impact. Forerunners mentored the candidates during the entire one month training course and prepared them to be highly effective and productive employees working at Twitch.
